DOVER: CARE HOME FOR THE ELDERLY UNDER INSPECTION.
Dover House, a residential care home operated by Dover House (GC) Limited—which provides accommodation with nursing and personal care for the elderly and people living with dementia—has undergone an inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) following a serious incident involving one of the residents. Dover House has been downgraded from a "Good" rating to "Inadequate" and must now overhaul its entire organisation. Residents were found to be living in substandard conditions. "We saw residents wearing urine-soaked clothing who had not been supported to use the bathroom. Relatives told us they had raised concerns about the smell and cleanliness for months, yet nothing had changed." There were episodes of people displaying anxious, distressed, and aggressive behaviours, resulting in harm to others living at the service. People had unexplained bruising that was not always recorded or investigated. Following the commission's findings, a spokesperson for Dover House stated: "Since receiving the inspection feedback, we have been working closely with the CQC and local partners to implement a comprehensive improvement plan. This includes strengthening leadership oversight, improving staff training and understanding of safeguarding processes, and ensuring that staffing levels—particularly during the night—are appropriate to provide safe, person-centred care." All bedrooms and communal areas are currently being reviewed to ensure they are clean, well-maintained, and reflect a homely, personalised environment for the residents.
