Simon Jeffery, Animal Director at Port Lympne Reserve, has announced the arrival of a new birth: Lima, a Javan gibbon. Born on Valentine’s Day, the infant belongs to an endangered species, with an estimated 4,000 Javan gibbons remaining in the wild. Port Lympne Reserve is part of a programme founded in 1992 by EAZA, the world's largest regional zoo and aquarium organisation focused on wildlife conservation. To date, Port Lympne Reserve has successfully seen three out of nine gibbons born in captivity return to a new life in the wild. Simon Jeffery, Animal Director at Port Lympne Reserve, stated: "As a critically important species within the EAZA programme, Javan gibbons are central to our conservation mission, and Lima represents a significant and exciting step forward for our breeding efforts.New arrival at the Kent zoo.
