DOVER HISTORICAL SITES OPEN FOR THE NATIONAL FESTIVAL
Dover's historical sites will open to the public free of charge for Heritage Open Days. The Dover District Council (DDC) stated that it is an 'opportunity for local people to explore the history on their doorstep for free.'
The event will run until September 21st, and the sites involved include the recently restored Maison Dieu, which is Dover's Town Hall, as well as the Dover Museum and Bronze Age Boat Gallery, and the Roman Painted House.
DDC Councillor Lynne Wright said: 'We are delighted to be involved in Heritage Open Days again this year.'
'The festival offers free entry to so many of England's treasured assets. We have so much history and heritage in the district, and our visitors are truly spoilt for choice.'
The annual event involves thousands of local volunteers and organisations. Some sites also offer tours of the venue. This year will also include a tour of the Mayor's Parlour in the Town Hall, which was designed by the Neo-Gothic architect and designer William Burges and is now run as a holiday let by The Landmark Trust.
