DOVER: WOMAN ARRESTED FOR SMUGGLING WEAPONS AND HEROIN.
A woman was stopped by police on February 24th. The woman, who was travelling in her car, was intercepted after arriving in Calais. Inside her vehicle, officers found 5 kg of heroin with an estimated street value of approximately £500,000, along with 13 weapons, several handguns, and 290 rounds of ammunition. During questioning, the woman initially claimed she had been to Lyon to scatter ashes; however, when pressed, she confessed to importing firearms, ammunition, and drugs, and was subsequently convicted. Rachel Bramley, National Crime Agency Branch Commander, stated: "Firearms crime in the UK is among the lowest in the world, but these weapons had the potential to cause devastating harm." She added: "These terrifying weapons and ammunition are now out of the hands of extremely dangerous criminals." She further declared: "In recent years, we have seen the tragic consequences of completely innocent victims being killed or injured in the crossfire of criminals." The woman was sentenced to nine years in prison.
